Sebastiaan Kaal to present MLK Library plans at National Building Museum in Washington DC

11.06.2015 - Events

Mecanoo’s Sebastiaan Kaal will unveil the plans for the revitalisation of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library during a presentation at the National Building Museum in Washington DC, on Thursday June 18th at 12:30pm.

The Mecanoo/Martinez+Johnson design team was chosen in 2014 to revitalise the MLK Library, and deliver a next generation building that would embrace Washington DC’s contemporary culture and changing needs. The library, completed in 1972, is designed by one of the great 20th Century architects Mies van der Rohe, and honours the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

At the presentation, the team will introduce the preliminary renderings to transform this historic building into an amazing centre for education, entrepreneurship and entertainment for residents of the District of Columbia. This programme is presented with the DC Public Library and is free of charge.
