Start of construction at Hotel Château St. Gerlach

02.09.2015 - Project updates

September 1st 2015 marked the start of the part renovation, part new build conference facility at Château St. Gerlach near Maastricht in the Netherlands. Mecanoo was asked by Camille Oostwegel to design ‘Kasteelhoeve Broers & Le Pavillon’.

The National Monument ‘Kasteelhoeve Broers’ – a heritage farmhouse - is located next to the entrance of the Château St. Gerlach estate. Built in 1668, the renovated country farmhouse will house meeting rooms as well as a store selling products made on the estate, offering a charming resting place for hikers and cyclists in the region.

Right behind the Kasteelhoeve Broers, Mecanoo’s state-of-the-art pavilion is to be constructed. Francine Houben says about the project: “’Le Pavillon’ is designed as an elegant pavilion with a large roof, creating a canopy on all sides. The transparent facade will ensure that the interior and exterior are intertwined. The materials used are inspired by the surrounding Limburg nature: marlstone, bluestone and oak wood. From the pavilion guests will have surprising views over of the château, the hills, the meadow and the renovated farmhouse.”

The 850m2 pavilion will consist of three multifunctional meeting rooms that can be used separately or combined. It will therefore offer endless opportunities for a great variety of meetings and events. Kasteelhoeve Broers & Le Pavillon is scheduled to open in fall 2016.
