Housing the present and securing homes for the future

22.03.2017 - Events

Dick van Gameren, partner at Mecanoo, will give a lecture at ‘Housing the present and securing homes for the future’ in Manchester on March 29, 2017. Organised by Street North West, the event questions how to create homes that reflect the needs of families and sustainable communities.

A panel of specialists in housing delivery and design have been invited to discuss their visions for ‘Homes of the future’ in Manchester. The focus will be on ‘doing things differently’ in terms of design, delivery and planning policy in order to produce a diverse range of housing typologies and tenures in the city. What is needed to ensure that housing today better reflects the needs of their tenants as well as sustainable communities?

Dick van Gameren is renowned for his public housing and urban planning, combining his work as an architect with a professorship in Architecture and Dwelling at the Delft University of Technology. Melissa Wilson, Assistant Director Deloitte Real Estate and Nathan Cornish, Director at Urban Splash will also give lectures. After the speakers, there will be an opportunity to ask questions.

The event takes place at the top floor of the Beehive Mill, Jersey Street, Manchester and begins at 6pm. Street North West is a young urban designers network and chapter of the Urban Design Group (UDG). UDG is a membership charity open to all who care about the quality of life in our cities, towns and villages and believe that raising standards of urban design is central to its improvement.
