2013 12 20 Kaohsiung International Arts Container Festival

Kaohsiung International Arts Container Festival

20.12.2013 - Events
On 20 December the Kaohsiung International Arts Container Festival opened to the public at the Pier-2 Art District in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Several local and international architects and designers, among which Mecanoo, were invited to design container spaces for the occasion. Mecanoo exhibits an accessible 1:10 scale model of the 2000 seat Concert Hall of the Wei-Wu-Ying Center for the Arts in Kaohsiung.

The complex is currently under construction and scheduled for completion in 2015. At 141.000 m2 it will be one of the largest facilities of its kind in Asia and include the 2000 seat Concert Hall, a 2250 seat Opera House, 1250 seat Theatre Hall and 470 seat Recital Hall, as well as a 800 m2 Public Library.

The Concert Hall with a large pipe organ will be used for concerts ranging from symphony to jazz and popular music. The model displayed by Mecanoo in the Container Festival has been used to test the acoustic performance of the hall under atmospheric conditions. Visitors can climb a staircase to access the model and experience the space while listening to an acoustic landscape of the city.

The experience will give an impression of the intimate acoustic ambiance, warmth and spaciousness that will characterize the Concert Hall. An accompanying video, also produced by Mecanoo, is simultaneously shown in the main pavilion of the festival.
