Start construction Life Sciences Incubator at Utrecht Science Park

10.09.2014 -

The first concrete pour marked the construction start of the second Life Sciences Incubator (LSI) at the Utrecht Science Park. The LSI is a business centre for start-ups in the bioscience field and will consist of both laboratories and offices. The 6,200 m2 building will have a joint entrance alongside the existing incubator. Completion is set for the second half of 2015.

With its wide variety of distinct buildings, the Utrecht Science Park is a microcosm of modern architecture. To fit within its surroundings, Mecanoo designed a sophisticated building with horizontal layers, while the detailed glazed facade adds a unique touch. By analysing the sustainability score and life cycle costs for each design decision, Mecanoo and GiesbersWijchen have created a remarkable design. The team aims to make the LSI the first laboratory building with BREEAM Outstanding certification in the Netherlands.
