On Friday, February 21 Mayor Antoine Walraven and Councilor Edwin van Schipstal of Mill-Saint Hubert officially opened the new community school Child Centre Mill.
Mecanoo designed the centre in cooperation with its new users: primary schools De Kameleon and De LenS, Daycare Centre Spring/Ikke and the Youth and Family branch of the local health service. The result is a striking and yet sustainable building with a clear layout an eye-catching green roof and brick façades with a colour gradient.
The auditorium is situated at the entrance and forms the bright, multifunctional heart of the school. From this playful, double-height space a logistical circle connects all functions. As one of the first schools in the Netherlands, the Child Centre Mill meets the ventilation advice Fresh Schools Class A.
