25th Anniversary of Library Delft University of Technology

08.05.2023 - Project updates

On Monday 15 May 2023, the TU Delft Library building celebrates its 25th anniversary. TU Delft will mark this event with a lunch lecture by Francine Houben, one of the architects of the TU Delft Library and founder of Mecanoo Architects. After the lecture, the unveiling of the photo wall of all former (and current) directors will take place, as a tribute to our history and our future.

The unique TU Delft Library building was designed by Mecanoo architects. It is not just a building, but also a landscape with the grassed roof lifted at one corner and supported by columns. The central hall that is created by this effect has glass facades, letting light into the back office structure. The grass slope is interrupted by a shallow set of steps, leading to the main entrance. An enormous cone pierces the grass roof, providing room for quiet study spaces and symbolising technology.

The TU Delft Library is the largest technical-scientific library in The Netherlands. However, the Library is more than just a library. After being renovated and turned into a Library Learning Centre in 2010, TU Delft Library has become a place for study, research and the exchange of knowledge. With inspiring spaces, places to relax and stimulating activities, emphasise the fact that we at the university library are embracing the future and that we are an indispensable link between education and research.
