Nuno Fontarra, architect and partner at Mecanoo, is embarking on an Asian tour spanning Macau, Taiwan, and Abu Dhabi. This tour celebrates Mecanoo’s groundbreaking projects and reinforces the firm’s commitment to fostering global architectural dialogue. With extensive experience in transformative projects across Asia, Fontarra’s work ranges from cultural landmarks to pioneering urban designs. This journey underscores Mecanoo’s dedication to connecting cultures and communities through architecture.
The tour begins in the vibrant city of Macau, home to Mecanoo’s ongoing project, the Macau Central Library. While in Macau, Fontarra will deliver a keynote lecture at the University of Macau on 4 December at 7 PM - Finding Extra Value in Architecture, offering thought-provoking insights into the art of design. More information and registration, here.
On 7 December, Fontarra will travel to Taiwan to revisit one of Mecanoo’s most iconic achievements: the National Kaohsiung Centre for the Arts (Weiwuying). This visit coincides with a memorial concert honouring Albert Xu, the visionary acoustic designer whose legacy continues to resonate in the art world. During his stay, Fontarra will also visit the construction site of Kaohsiung Station, a soon-to-be-completed green connector integrating diverse modes of transport and embodying the city’s vision of sustainable urban living—more information and tickets for Albert Xu Memorial concert, here.
The tour concludes in Abu Dhabi at the Heritage Middle East Expo, where Fontarra will take the stage on 11 December at 3 PM. He will present Mecanoo’s design vision for the Natural History Museum, a landmark development in the Saadiyat Cultural District set to open in 2025 —more information and tickets, here.
This tour is not just a celebration of architectural excellence but a testament to how design can bridge cultures, inspire innovation, and create a sustainable future.
