The area around Delft Campus Station, close to Delft University of Technology, is developing into a vibrant neighbourhood: a place that lives and breathes innovation, where different generations find a pleasant place to live and work, centred around the renewed station. The area is located centrally in Delft’s Innovation District, bordering the industrial park Schieoevers, the mixed-use development Kabeldistrict and the residential neighbourhoods of Voorhof and Tanthof. The plan brings together living, working, learning and winding down at the intersection of these four diverse areas, while also acting as a gateway to the green oasis of Midden-Delfland.
The station becomes a multimodal hub for public transport, providing excellent train, bus, bike and pedestrian connections. The direct surroundings will develop into an ‘urban campus’: a place in the city that is constantly evolving, in which the green station plaza acts as its heart. Connecting both sides of the tracks, it provides ample space for neighbourhood markets, sports, events and experiments, because this is also where the technological strength and innovation of the city becomes tangible.
Surrounding the plaza, all-sided buildings and four distinctive towers will emerge, accommodating education and research, (high-tech) offices, start-ups and maker spaces. The ground floors will welcome a mix of neighbourhood amenities, co-working and cafés. In addition, a variety of different housing types will be added, catering to students, starters, families and others working in the area or looking for a next step.
The area development will be carried out in phases towards 2050, with 2030 as a key milestone. However, the transformation is already becoming tangible. At the Delft Boost Lab, a temporary hub housed in a former construction shed, the collaborative process between city and its innovation power is coming to life. Together with residents, entrepreneurs, and educational institutions, the area is taking shape through a hands-on, learning-by-doing approach. The resulting urban campus links innovation to a comfortable living environment, turning Delft Campus into a characteristic destination: a gateway to technology, creativity and collaboration.
