The Tanglang Towers are situated at the foot of the beautiful Tanglang Hills in Shenzhen, perfectly placed to capture the busy stream of commuters traveling to and from Shenzhen via the bustling Huanzhong metro line.
The four towers, each differing in height (200m, 187m and 174m) encapsulate the mountainous terrain of the landscape. In reference to their context, each tower’s name derives from a mountain located in Shenzhen: Lotus, Phoenix, Maluan, and Wutong.
The towers operate harmoniously together to form a scheme with a varied and exciting program: a hotel complete with a swimming pool and sky lobby on the 20th floor, a shopping mall containing an ice rink, office spaces, and homes.
The entire complex is based on a repeating grid system interspersed by a series of circular spaces which form entrance, atria and patio spaces.
At the heart of the complex lies the Metal Patio which gently inclines to create a natural amphitheater, providing a distinctive setting for a myriad of activities.
The towers are equipped with technologies to reduce negative environmental impact: photovoltaic cells are integrated on south facing façades; green roofs are used to retain water, filter the air and encourage biodiversity; and concrete mass activation is used to lower the buildings heating and cooling requirements.
The façade concept is based on a pixel pattern. In correlation with the program, the translucency of the façade increases at the higher levels of the building. The pixel panels are made from four different materials: glass, concrete, metal (solid and perforated) and photovoltaic cells.
The crafted placement of these materials creates a dynamic and glittering impression on the Shenzhen skyline.
