Chicago Athenaeum International Architecture Award for Library of Birmingham

The Library of Birmingham has been named winner of The International Architecture Award 2015 organised by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design, together with The European Center for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, and Metropolitan Arts Press, Ltd.

The award programme is recognises excellence in architecture and urbanism from a global point-of-view. It pays tribute to new developments in design and underscores the directions and understanding of current cutting-edge processes consistent with today’s design thinking.

Standing proudly over Centenary Square, the Library of Birmingham is a “cathedral” of knowledge and learning. Since its opening in September 2013, it has become the city’s cultural heart, blending its character into its programming and design, and connecting people of all ages, cultures and backgrounds.
