Bolling Building wins The American Architecture Award

06.09.2016 - Project updates

In recognition of its contribution to innovative contemporary American architecture, the Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building in Boston, designed by Mecanoo and Sasaki Associates, has been named as one of the winners of The American Architecture Awards 2016.

Organised annually by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, the American Architecture Awards are the highest public awards given in the U.S. by a non-commercial, non-trade affiliated, public arts, culture and educational institution.

“The winning projects are each stunning and provocative new additions to their urban and rural locations – authentic connections to nature and to the very cultures in which they coexist. The selected projects have a positive psychological effect on the communities in which they are built and in which they serve – every detail looks handcrafted; every facade contextualized; every plan, diagram, and section particularly and exquisitely well executed,” said Christian Narkiewicz-Laine, Museum President of The Chicago Athenaeum.

The Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building is home to the Boston Public Schools department and opened in April 2015. It features three historical facades stitched together into a bright new brick building that is inspirational to people of all ages.
