Boston’s Bolling Building finalist for Rudy Bruner Award

09.02.2017

The Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building in Boston, designed by Mecanoo architecten and Sasaki Associates, has been chosen as one of five finalists for the Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence. The Rudy Bruner Award recognizes designs that reinvigorate spaces and contribute to the economic, environmental and social vitality of American cities.

The Bolling Building celebrates the history of Roxbury, inaugurating a new era for the neighbourhood. It is home to the Boston Public Schools department and designed to be friendly, healthy and inspirational to people of all ages. The New York Times called it an example of transformative urban architecture that comes from “understanding past civic hopes and redesigning them to meet the future.”

Founded in 1986 by architect Simeon Bruner, the biennial award promotes innovative thinking about the built environment and to advance conversation about making cities better by celebrating and sharing the stories of creative and inspiring urban development. It is distinguished by its extensive application and selection process and the detailed documentation of the winners.

Staff of the Rudy Bruner Award will visit each finalist project in preparation for the jury committee’s selection of the medal winners. One gold medal and four silver medals will be announced in June.
