Project description

The Sluisbuurt is still largely a vast stretch of sand, where the outlines of a new future are gradually emerging. Over the coming years, this area will evolve into a lively urban district. At its heart, SunSet begins to rise: two horizontally linked, elevated towers resting on a striking plinth – a visual anchor in the neighbourhood’s growing skyline. With its stepped silhouette, SunSet seamlessly aligns with the Sluisbuurt’s urban vision.

As the sun sets over Amsterdam, its rays paint the sky in hues of pink and gold. Buildings glow in warm, radiant tones – a breathtaking spectacle. SunSet is a tribute to the sun and all it brings: energy, light, reflection, warmth – and shadow, when it sets or slips behind façades. The towers look out over the city – both literally, across the historic centre of Amsterdam, and metaphorically, toward a future that is sustainable and full of life.

SunSet offers a varied mix of residences for different target groups: singles, couples, and families. The homes are designed with multi-sided orientation, which not only provides maximum views and daylight but also contributes to natural comfort. By making optimal use of sunlight, ventilation, and heat control, the need for technical installations is minimised. Each home has its own outdoor space and is flexibly adaptable to suit current and future living needs.

In this project, nature serves as a green link. A continuous green zone connects to the dike, meanders through the building via the verge strip, and ends at the canal with a public garden. At the heart of the plan lies a communal courtyard – a green oasis in the middle of the city. It offers space to relax, be active, and come together throughout the day. In this way, SunSet connects urban development with natural experience and a sense of community.
